Over the past few weeks, we’ve received quite a few questions about “combed cotton.” And honestly, we might have contributed to that ourselves. In one of our videos, there was a small spelling mistake (oops!) – which quickly sparked reactions. But it also started something positive: people became curious about what combed cotton actually is. So here’s a clear explanation.
What is combed cotton?
Combed cotton is cotton that has been extra carefully processed before spinning. During the combing process, the shorter and weaker fibers are removed from the cotton. Only the longest and strongest fibers remain. These fibers are then combed smooth, making the final yarn more even and softer.
Why is it better?
You can feel the difference immediately – and you’ll still notice it after months of use. Combed cotton is:
- Softer: thanks to the long, smooth fibers
- Less prone to lint: fewer loose fibers mean less shedding
- More durable: stronger yarns that last longer
- More absorbent: more fibers per cm² improve drying performance
- Better at holding color: the cotton retains dye more effectively
