Why Your Towels Still Aren’t as Soft as in Hotels – and What You Can Do About It
May 22 2025

You probably recognize this: you buy a stack of “luxury” towels, they feel soft in the store, but after a few washes they become stiff, thin, or start to smell less fresh. Meanwhile, you’re still dreaming of that hotel feeling — thick, soft towels you almost don’t want to let go of. So why is the difference so big?

Not all cotton is the same

It all starts with the quality of the material. Many towels sold in stores are made from mixed yarns or short-fiber cotton. They may feel soft at first due to factory coatings, but they quickly lose their structure and absorbency.

Hotel towels — and those from Miss Towels — are made from 100% long-fiber combed cotton, without artificial softeners that wash out over time.

Weight makes the difference

The weight of the towel also plays a role. An average towel weighs around 400 g/m². Our towels are 550 g/m², which you’ll immediately notice in their volume, softness, and absorbency. Heavier towels absorb more water and maintain their quality longer.

How to keep towels truly soft

Maintenance also matters. Wash your towels at 40°C, avoid using fabric softener (it leaves a coating on the fibers), and preferably dry them in the dryer to maintain a full and soft texture.
